Digital In-field and Remote Assessments For Every Landscape

We empower organisations to make data-driven decisions that balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.

GIS Software For Ecologists & Environmental Scientists

Senus Terrain is a cutting-edge GIS software platform that facilitates the collection, verification, and management of field surveys, assessments, and operations. Our cloud-based mapping platform automatically syncs infield data collection and provides a range of GIS tools for data analytics and reporting.

Senus: GIS Software For Ecologist

Precision at Your Fingertips

Senus Terrain excels in habitat mapping, offering advanced classification capabilities. Our GIS tool generates accurate 2D maps with habitat quantities, utilising Fossitt level 2 or UKHab level 3 classifications. This ensures that your environmental assessments meet the highest standards of accuracy and detail.

The infield app transforms traditional survey methods, digitising scorecards and assessments while capturing geotagged photos and GPS tracks. This provides unparalleled quality control and traceability, essential for maintaining the integrity of your field data.  Whether you’re mapping habitats, monitoring biodiversity, or conducting environmental assessments, Senus Terrain empowers environmental professionals with the tools needed to conduct accurate and efficient field surveys.

With Senus Terrain, you can:

Use any global classification system e.g. - UKHab, or define your own.

Sync the mapped site to the Terrain app to guide infield survey teams and track progress in real time.

Perform fully remote habitat assessments.

Comment suggestions using our ‘comment’ feature to provide feedback as land is bought/sold/changed over time.

Collate all site data into a single dashboard, allowing you to view habitat/biodiversity/soil/water quality data all in one place.

Use our GIS tool to create 2D maps with habitat qualities.

Infield Data Collection via the Terrain App

Easily run any type of infield survey. Create a survey and sync it to multiple team members to coordinate data collection. All field data is automatically synced back to the platform, bringing together inputs from all surveyors.

Sync infield photos directly to the platform, enabling project managers to review and quality-check all data for consistent habitat condition scoring.

Manage the project activities through a work order system to track survey progress.

Our EUDR Approach

Senus can provide EUDR compliance for all commodities, globally, as long as location-specific data is supplied.

We can provide an easy-to-use processor level app for identifying a beef farmer suppliers land parcels, providing geotags, checking for deforestation since 2020 and reporting.

We propose a 3-step process.

Step 1

Senus provided with farm/land parcel Geospatial location for EUDR assessment.

Step 2

Deforestation assessment conducted in Senus Terrain App, with auto & manual QA steps before reporting.

Step 3

Senus Terrain provides Geo-Tag records and farm and processor level reports for the Due Diligence Statement.

Terrain Land Use Dashboard

The verified reviewed data would form part of your Corporate Land Use Dashboard.

This data showcases each of the levers that are defined by the National standards.

Our platform highlights the following:

  • Processor-level metrics (land areas, supplier locations).
  • Farmer supplier-level metrics.
  • Land parcel metrics (including any non-compliant or inconclusive EUDR flags (e.g. – clear-felled or thinned forestry etc.).
  • A mechanism will be provided for the farmer to confirm
the status of inconclusive parcels by SMS.

Our NDVI Approach

Senus will provide individual reports for each client using our Land Use reporting platform. The report will include:

  • Annual satellite NDVI maps for the site for the previous 3-5 years.
  • NDVI change maps – verifying % of forestry change.
  • Annual climate data for the site to include:
    – Rainfall
    – Temperature
    – Soil temperature
    – Solar radiation
  • Monthly climate data for the most recent year.
  • A damage report derived from Sentinel-1 Synthetic Radar Aperture (SAR) data (if applicable).

In addition to this, we are able to provide deforestation alerts. Our algorithm compares mutli-temporal SAR imagery for statistical differences. As SAR is not impacted by cloud cover, we are able to generate an alert every 2-weeks, irrespective of weather conditions.

Remote Biodiversity Capabilities

We now have two approaches to remote biodiversity modelling and monitoring, both of which can be tailored to user needs.

Approach 1: Biodiversity hotspot identification:

We calculate the spectral diversity of multi spectral satellite imagery. Different land cover types, plant species, and ecological features exhibit unique spectral signatures across different wavelengths. Ultimately, higher spectral diversity = higher biodiversity. Identifying these variations allows diversity to be understood across project areas, identifying biodiversity hotspots and networks.

Approach 2: Distribution of species of interest:

Leveraging in-field survey data (such as ecological surveys for red- listed species), we can look at correlations between satellite, topographic, climatic and environmental data to identify the likelihood of finding similar species elsehwere. This predictive technology can be used to identify where species of interest (rare, protected, invasive, etc.) may occur.
